Storming of the Bastille
On the morning of July 14th 1789, a group of craftsmen and salesmen decided to fight back and run to the invalides to steal some weapons. They stole 28000 rifles but then there was no gun powder. They knew that gunpowder were stored in the Bastille, so they decided to attack it. During the storming, the Bastille was guarded by only a few soldiers. Still, the crowd was not big enough to impress the guards; but the crowd did lead Marquis de Launay to making a meeting with the crowd's representatives. However, negotiations ended when revolutionaries entered the Bastille, ending monarchy and making a symbol of the Fall of Tyranny. Guards were killed and Marquis de Launay was beheaded, with his head put up on a stake and carried around the city as a sign of victory. French Revolution then begins.
